What about Social Media?
the uses
Access
With all the different ways to hear about the latest scandal and the name of the new famous baby, it's always easy to find out anything whether you're looking for it or not. The truth is always questionable but what isn't on the web?
Twitter is great for immediate access because of all the live tweeting. If you know something big is happening in the world, it's always a good place to check because you will always get two sides to everything. For example, when Hurricane Katerina happened, I was able to find out all the updates from Twitter.
What I like the most about all social medias are the different viewpoints of everything. You can hear the good/bad, positive/negative, popular/unpopular view on anything and everything. The web gives you every viewpoint to the fullest. Whatever it is that you're trying to look up and learn about, there are so many different sources. You can always have an answer.
Connectivity
In this day and age, it is so easy to connect with anyone. Maybe it was a a little harder when there were beepers and old style phones but all the smart phones these days make everything so much easier. Whether you're trying to connect with long lost best friend or change an interview time last minute, the newest technology has helped us so much.
But what if his or her phone is dead? It's not a problem because with all the other forms of social media, you can definitely find a way to get in touch with them. Facebook messenger, direct message on twitter, or even a Snapchat. It's really not hard to keep up with someone's daily activities and what they are doing currently. Just send them a snapchat and see what they are up to.
Hashtags
It's incredible how much the hashtag has changed the universe. It originated on Twitter but it has been so important ever since. People would make fun of the fact that whatever Justin Bieber's hashtag was for the hour would go viral within seconds. Hashtags served a very important purpose on Twitter in the early days – you could create one tied to a specific trend, event, or topic, and filter out everything that didn’t relate to the hashtag. You can easily find answers to anything you are looking for and find out where something is located around them. It's a wonderful creation and has really helped relay information in one of the fastest ways possible.
Now, hashtags have grown into a phenomenon of their own. Some use them in a funny way, a traditional way, and a way to make others laugh.
Business World
In this world, it's all about who you know and what they can do for you. But how do they know if you're a good candidate for their business? That's where social media comes into play. Can you imagine what life would be like without LinkedIn? or even Facebook? When looking for potential people to hire, a background search of some sort is a necessity and couldn't be completed without the internet. Social networks enable businesses across the world to amplify their message in a way never thought possible only a decade or two ago.
Not only are people using social media to see what past experiences they have but people like Justin Bieber or Madison Beer wouldn't have been found without YouTube. People make careers off of what they post on social networks. It just keeps happening more and more as the time goes on.
